Our Mission
Starfish Kenya is dedicated to making the words, “Jesus loves me, this I know,” a reality in the lives of the most vulnerable children in Kenya.
Everything we do flows from this mission. Our desire is to enable the children we support to experience God’s love by meeting the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual needs of each child. We believe that every child is created with unique gifts and talents. As such, each child we have the privilege of coming alongside is given not only an academic education, but the opportunity to flourish in the areas of their giftedness. We firmly believe in the age-old adage: “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.” –Chinese proverb

From the beginning of our work with House of Hope and St. Anna Care Centre, we have focused on one child at a time, and we strive to care for what we refer to as “the whole child.” Although most of our work takes place in school settings with the students in Kenya, we realize there is much more to successful nurturing than just academics. Thanks to the help of our donors, we have been able to partner with House of Hope and St. Anna Care Centre in Kenya to build the infrastructure and provide abundant opportunities for spiritual growth, physical fitness and recreation, skills training, visual and performing arts, and hands-on practice in fields such as dairy farming, crop farming, commercial baking and catering, sewing, automotive maintenance and carpentry. Herein we have helped provide opportunities for children, students, and young adults to explore and learn skills for a future career in the area of their natural talents and interests. Our standards are high because we have high hopes for every child.

There are innumerable testimonies from community leaders, clergy, social workers, guardians and extended family members regarding the tremendous difference they see in the character and abilities of the children supported by Starfish Kenya. As a result of their experience at House of Hope and St. Anna Care Centre, these children and young adults are adding value and bringing hope to their communities of origin. This work has become much more far-reaching than we ever imagined, thanks to those who partner with us in this ministry in Kenya.

The Starfish Story
An old man walked up a shore littered with thousands of starfish, beached and dying after a storm. A young man was picking them up and flinging them back into the ocean, one by one. “Why do you bother?” the old man scoffed. “How can what you're doing possibly make a difference?” The young man picked up another starfish and sent it spinning back to the water. “It made a difference to that one,” he said.
